School life has never been easy. Assignments, projects, examinations, even having your own ball pen, yellow paper and other school stuff were just SOME of the problems we encounter year by year as we go along the path of education. Semester after semester, the subjects seem to get harder and schedules are getting more hectic, more busy that we even forget to unwind ourselves a little sometimes. Nevertheless, after a long night study, after answering those hell-hard, five-page major exams and after burning midnight candles, satisfaction is always guaranteed. Moreover, the things we do in school is not only for ourselves, but for our loved ones as well. Needless to say, the more we strive, the more of chances we get what we want - may it be a passing grade or a flat one.
In connection with this, some of my friends were bragging about my study habits. We all have our own habits, our own techniques in order for us to absorb all the knowledge found in our very textbooks and photocopies. Me? It might be little be different from yours, or maybe similar, but it doesn't matter. As long as you are comfortable studying, then learning is never to far to be achieved.
So, here are some of those things that I do so that I could understand easier and faster what Mr. Textbook is trying to teach me. With this, I could also retain as much as possible the things I have been studying all night long.
- READ, READ and READ. Common isn't it? But this is the very basic thing you must do for you to understand what is the topic all about. Read thoroughly and comprehend, otherwise, reading is just useless.
- WRITE IMPORTANT NOTES. Other people equip themselves with highlighters and underliners (lol). But for me, it is more effective to write it down in paper rather than coloring those words with neon green or orange. Writing it down will make you memorize the important words faster and retain it much longer. But either way is effective though.
- SAY IT LOUD. But be careful not to wake those who are already sleeping. Some people, like me, memorize things faster when I say it loud. I often found myself talking to myself when I am studying. And I really discuss the topics with myself (weird, eh?).
- MUNCH, EAT, SIP. Yes, when I study, I love putting something in my mouth, specifically peanuts. What's special about peanuts is that, they contain a lot of Taurine which is proven to increase the brain's capacity to learn and memorize and mental alertness. What's down for this is it also increases pimple risks. I also love having a cup of coffee during study time.
- TEST YOURSELF. It is also important to drill yourself to test if you really understood what you were studying. If your score is low, then review again and again until you get a satisfactory score, much better if perfect score, right?
Studying can be enjoyable if you devote yourself into it. Knowledge is honed by two factors: Experience and Following. Experience is your firsthand teacher. There are just some things which are impossible to experience, especially when the wallet is only filled with butterflies. That's when following enters the scene. Following means reading books, media, listening to advises and etc. The two act in an antagonistic way. They are both there to fill in for the thing the other one cannot do.
And that's how I study. How about you?
